Otwarcie wystawy odbędzie się 8 marca (sobota) o godz.
19.00 w CSW Kronika w Bytomiu.
Magda Fabiańczyk przygotowywała się do realizacji
projektu w Bytomiu Bobrku od ponad roku, początkowo zwiedzając okolicę, a od
października odwiedzając romskich mieszkańców Bobrka w ich mieszkaniach.
Pierwsze, zainicjowane przez Kronikę spotkanie, odbyło się w Szkole Podstawowej
Nr 16, gdzie Fabiańczyk poznała Romkę - Angelę Mirgę, oraz prowadzącą Świetlicę
Romską Agatę Kołodziejczyk. Obie przedstawiły Fabiańczyk złożoną sytuację
okolicznych Romów, a Angela stała się 'przewodnikiem', wprowadzając artystkę w
intymne środowisko Bobrka. Początkowo artystka poszukiwała zapomnianych przez
Romów symboli kultury, z którą są utożsamiani. Zainspirowana słowami Mirgi oraz
formą tradycyjnej spódnicy uszytej na planie koła, która istnieje obecnie jako
relikt, gdyż młodsze kobiety chodzą w spodniach, a te starsze w modnych długich
spódnicach, Fabiańczyk postanowiła przekształcić ją w obrus, który przykryje
okrągły stół. Stół stanie się realnym miejscem spotkań Romów z
przedstawicielami organów władzy w mieście. Spotkania odbędą się w Kronice,
traktując galerię jako przestrzeń, w której możliwe jest zapoczątkowanie
dialogu.
MAGDA FABIAŃCZYK (ur. 1980) - absolwentka Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Katowicach oraz Byam Shaw School of Art w Central Saint Martins w Londynie. Artystka wizualna, autorka instalacji, performerka. Jej prace były wystawiane m.in. w Rockefeller Centre For The Contemporary Arts w Dreźnie, The Pigeon Wing Gallery w Londynie, Happen Studio Gallery w Berlinie, Parku Rzeźb w Angelsbergu. Artystka jest zainteresowana pozycją artysty działającego na przecięciu wielu dyskursów, pracą ze społecznościami lokalnymi oraz dialogiem jako podstawowym elementem procesu twórczego.

Lorenzena, Łukasza Skąpskiego, Krïstïana Skylstada, Łukasza Surowca oraz
dokumentacja wcześniej zrealizowanej pracy site-specific Pawła Kulczyńskiego.
Wszystkie są wynikiem rezydencji artystycznych na terenie Górnego Śląska i
Zagłębia Dąbrowskiego.

Magda Fabiańczyk had spent over a year getting ready for her project in Bytom Bobrek, initially doing a local reconnaissance and, from October, visiting the Roma living in Bobrek in their homes. On the initiative of CSW Kronika, the first encounter took place in Primary School No 16, where Fabiańczyk met the Roma woman Angela Mirga and Agata Kołodziejczyk, who runs the Roma Centre. Both women outlined to the artist the complex situation of the local Roma population, and Angela became her ‘guide’, introducing the artist into the intimate Bobrek community. The artist began by looking for the manifestations of their distinctive culture which the Roma have been abandoning and which has been associated with them. Inspired by the words of Mirga and the design of the traditional skirt, cut from a full circle – now only a historic curio as the younger Roma women wear trousers, and the older ones sport the fashionable long skirts – Fabiańczyk decided to turn such a skirt into a table cloth and cover a round table with it. The table will become the heart of the meeting place where the Roma can come together with the representatives of the local government. The meetings will take place at CSW Kronika, turning the gallery into a space where a dialogue can come into life.

A graduate of the University of Economics in Katowice and the Byam Shaw School of Art at Central Saint Martins in London. Her works have been exhibited in venues including the Rockefeller Center for the Contemporary Arts in Dresden, The Pigeon Wing Gallery in London, Happen Studio Gallery in Berlin and the Sculpture Park in Ängelsberg in Sweden.The artist is interested in the place of the artist operating at the interface of numerous discourses, work with local communities and dialogue as the fundamental element of the creative process.

The exhibition A Place Where We Could Go is the
premiere showing of eight autonomous projects (exhibitions) by Magda
Fabiańczyk, Erla S. Haralsdóttir, Lars Holdhusa and Frederik Gruyaert, Rafał
Jakubowicz, Darri Lorenzen, Łukasz Skąpski, Krïstïan Skylstad and Łukasz
Surowiec as well as the documentation of the site-specific work by Paweł
Kulczyński prepared earlier. All the projects are the result of artistic
residencies in Upper Silesia and the Dąbrowa Basin.
