Podczas pobytu rezydencyjnego w Bytomiu Lars Holdhus i Frederik Gruyaert stworzyli koncepcyjny projekt przyszłości śląskich miast. Ich futurystyczna wizja, w postaci map uzupełnionych fotografiami, w przewrotny sposób koresponduje z unijnymi i lokalnymi programami rewitalizacyjnymi i polityką promocyjną miast i regionów.
Towarzyszący jej projekt poboczny: hodowanie lokalnie występujących roślin w sposób sztuczny, przyspieszający ich wzrost, również odnosi się do sztucznie wykreowanego na cele turystyczne miasta w mieście. Nawiązuje także do nafaszerowanego sterydami (na przykład w postaci dotacji unijnych) Śląska, regionu, który tylko dzięki zewnętrznej pomocy może liczyć na pewien wzrost gospodarczy, zmiany infrastrukturalne czy kulturalne.
LARS HOLDHUS (ur.1986) - artysta wizualny. Absolwent holenderskiej Gerrit Rietveld Academie i frankfurckiej Staatliche Hochshule für Bildende Kunst, Städelschule. W swojej twórczości zajmuje się grą konwencji społecznych i subkultur, sytuacjami w których odrzucenie, wykluczenie i odmowa scala się w różne formy chaosu. Autor prac wideo, instalacji, w swej twórczości opiera się często na renderingach 3D, rysunkach, fotografiach i rycinach. Mieszka i pracuje w Berlinie.
FREDERIK GRUYAERT (ur. 1986) - artysta wizualny. Studiował w Instytucie Sztuki w Arnhem, Akademii Rietveld w Amsterdamie i Sint-Lukas w Brukseli. Używa fotografii, wideo i performance jako głównych narzędzi swojej praktyki artystycznej. Mieszka i pracuje w Antwerpii.

Frederika Gruyaerta, Rafała Jakubowicza, Darri Lorenzena, Łukasza Skąpskiego,
Krïstïana Skylstada, Łukasza Surowca oraz dokumentacja wcześniej zrealizowanej
pracy site-specific Pawła Kulczyńskiego. Wszystkie są wynikiem rezydencji
artystycznych na terenie Górnego Śląska i Zagłębia Dąbrowskiego.

FREDERIK GRUYAERT | AUTHENTIC POST-INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE as part of the
exhibition A Place Where We Could Go
Opening on Saturday, 8 March, 7 pm at CSW Kronika in
Bytom.
During their residential stay in Bytom, Lars Holdhus and Frederik Gruyaert created a conceptual projection of the future of Silesian cities. Their futuristic vision in the shape of maps enhanced by photographs provides a contrary slant on the European Union and local revitalisation programmes and the promotional policies for the cities and the region.
The accompanying side
project involves the artificial propagation of local plants so as to stimulate
faster growth, with its implication that this notion also applies to the ‘city
within the city’, artificially created as a tourist attraction. The
allusions are to the ‘steroid-stuffed’ Silesia (by the means of EU grants, to
use one example) – a region that can only hope for industrial growth,
improvements in its infrastructure and cultural development with external aid.
LARS HOLDHUS (born 1986) – a visual artist. A graduate of the Dutch Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Städelschule - Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Frankfurt. In his work, he takes on board the play of social conventions and subcultures and situations in which exclusion, rejection and denial combine into various forms of chaos. The author of videos and installations, he often bases his work on 3D renderings, photographs and drawings. He lives and works in Berlin.
FREDERIK GRUYAERT (born 1986) – a visual artist. He studied at the Institute of Art in Arnhem, the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Sint-Lukas in Brussels. His main artistic tools are photography, video and performance. He lives and works in Antwerp.

Place Where We Could Go is the premiere showing of eight autonomous
projects (exhibitions) by Magda Fabiańczyk, Erla S. Haralsdóttir, Lars Holdhusa
and Frederik Gruyaert, Rafał Jakubowicz, Darri Lorenzen, Łukasz Skąpski,
Krïstïan Skylstad and Łukasz Surowiec as well as the documentation of the
site-specific work by Paweł Kulczyński prepared earlier. All the projects
are the result of artistic residencies in Upper Silesia and the Dąbrowa Basin.
